Oma’s Apple Crisp

 

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 stick cold butter, cut in chunks
6 to 8 apples (Oma liked Granny Smith)
Optional: 1 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Peel and core apples. Cut into small chunks.
  2. Mix dry ingredients and then mix in the butter with a fork or your fingers. Oma preferred using her fingers! Mix well, but not so much as to make it oily.
  3. Spread crumbs over the apples and bake one hour. When done, poke a little with a knife to release steam.
  4. Serve warm with Gifford’s Vanilla Ice Cream!
