1991
This was Nancy’s Day-Timer page from April 1, 1991, the first day of Nancy Marshall Communications (NMC). The office was located in Nancy’s A-frame house on the Carrabassett River but would soon move into the upstairs of the print shop building in North Anson with Carrabassett Marketing & Printing.
1993
At NMC, we try to “live” in our clients’ shoes, so Nancy got her whitewater rafting guide license as part of our work for Northern Outdoors. That same Year, NMC was awarded the first-ever marketing services contract with the State of Maine.
1995
NMC landed a marketing services contract with the State of Maine Office of Business Development.
1996
Here, Nancy was speaking at the Blaine House at a press conference for the renowned Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. For the past 25 years, Nancy has built a strong network of contacts through media events like this one, speaking engagements and educational seminars for businesses and nonprofits.
1997
Charlene Williams joined NMC and quickly became Nancy’s trusted “right hand.”
1999
Nancy joined the Alliance of Marketing Communications Agencies, a national network of agency owners that shares best practices and holds each other accountable. Nancy has stayed in the network ever since, and many NMC employees have gone to boot camps to stay on top of what’s happening nationally.
2000
NMC was awarded the Margaret Chase Smith Quality Award for its dedication to providing quality service and products.
2001
NMC moved into its offices at 20 Western Avenue in Augusta shortly after 9/11 in 2001. It was a bold move, relocating from Kingfield at such a tumultuous time, but Nancy did not want to be deterred by terrorism. Charlene ran the Augusta office, while Nancy continued to operate out of the Kingfield office.
2002
Governor Angus King personally congratulated Nancy on the successful PR for the Maine Office of Tourism. We have always been proud of the PR results we have generated for all our clients!
2005
NMC won “Best of Show” from the Maine Public Relations Council for the campaign the agency created for the Maine Office of Tourism Literary Trail.
2006
NMC was presented with numerous awards by the Maine Public Relations Council, including the top PR award, “Best in Show,” for the second year in a row, and four Golden Arrow Awards. The First Pour event for Cold River Vodka was one of the most spectacular events NMC ever organized!
2009
NMC was recognized as the most frequently cited advertising, branding and marketing agency in Maine by Critical Insights, a research firm in Portland. As an agency located in Augusta (not Portland), we were proud of the recognition.
2011
Nancy won the Maine Public Relations Council Edward L. Bernays award, recognizing the top public relations professional in the state of Maine.
NMC was hired by British company Church’s China to handle all PR and marketing in the U.S. and Canada for the keepsake memorabilia for the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. NMC as an agency got more media coverage for handling this client than any client we had ever handled, including a live interview on Fox News nationally!
2013
Charlene Williams was named president of Nancy Marshall Communications. Nancy became CEO.
NMC trademarked The Marshall Plan® with the United States of America Patent and Trademark Office. The Marshall Plan® is a customized, comprehensive and strategic marketing, branding and communications plan developed through extensive research and a collaborative process to achieve measurable results. In our first 25 years, NMC has done 40 Marshall Plans®.
2015
Nancy Marshall obtained the trademark with the United States of America Patent and Trademark Office to be officially recognized as The PR Maven®. Through this practice, Nancy has focused on personal branding as she is a Certified Personal Branding Strategist.
NMC relocated to new offices at 151 Capitol Street in Augusta from its former location at 20 Western Avenue, Augusta. Here, we have created The Marshall Plan® conference room where we conduct all the important client meetings to develope their long-term strategic marketing and PR plans.
Nancy Marshall published her first book, PR Works!, on amazon.com and then recorded it for audible.com. In this book, Nancy put forth on her techniques to help clients generate marketing and PR success, as well as telling entertaining stories about her 30+ year career in PR.
Nancy Marshall and NMC were honored with the Kennebec Chamber of Commerce President’s Award. This was indeed a great honor!
2016
Maine State Representatives Martin Grohman, Tom Skolfield and Matt Pouliot, and Maine State Senator Tom Saviello authored and presented a legislative sentiment recognizing NMC for 25 years of business excellence.
2017
NMC wins Maine Public Relations Council’s Best of Show and Gold for Feature/Commentary Placement — Online for Orvis: How to Reinvent a 160 Year Old Fly Fishing Company.
2018
Marshall Communications wins Maine Public Relations Council’s Best of Show and Gold for Media Relations Campaign – 50/50 On The Water Campaign for Orvis.
Nancy launches her podcast, The PR Maven Podcast.
2019
Emma Dimock joins our team full-time after her internship.
2020
Pandemic: Beginning of remote-work.
Marshall Communications won Maine Public Relations Council Gold Award for The PR Maven® Podcast.
Nancy’s second book, Grow Your Audience, Grow Your Brand was published.
