The hot topic, the scoop, the buzz, the gossip—in other words, the news. It’s always been, and always will be what people talk about. Whether it’s real, fake or in between, news is all around us every single day. As members of the PR and marketing field, we have the opportunity to contribute to news feeds. It’s a privilege that, when used in a positive manner, can leave you feeling like you helped better the world. At least, that’s how we feel at Marshall Communications. Here’s why:
Through our clientele, we have had the opportunity to help keep people educated, healthy, and celebrated throughout the world. We’d love to take all the credit for this empowering work, but the spark to it all starts with our clients. We are fortunate to work with many socially responsible businesses and organizations whose mission, goals, and work are to do great things for their community, country, or world. We’re here to help make that happen.
There are many benefits to working with socially responsible clients. They are passionate, driven, and care deeply about their cause. It’s not a job to them, it’s just the way of life; and it’s quite contagious. Their motivation to do the absolute best they can is what fuels our work. Their desire to make a difference in the world makes us want to put just as much effort into what we do for them.
Here are some thoughts about this from members of our team:
- “It’s hard not to believe in what they support, and want to help them through the work that I do each day,” says Marshall Communications account supervisor Whitney Moreau about The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers. The Maine Children’s Home has a mission to build and strengthen families and their children, instilling hope for the future and a better quality of life. Whether it’s through her work on the monthly newsletter or a seasonal campaign, Whitney takes pride in the success of the Maine Children’s Home and works hard to make sure she does whatever she can to instill hope and motivation in their followers and supporters.
- Natural fatherly instincts come out for account supervisor Greg Glynn through his work with the Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds. The Clay Center is a web-based resource that educates parents and other caregivers about the psychological development and emotional well-being of children, adolescents, and young adults who struggle with behavioral, emotional, and/or learning challenges. Greg says, “hearing the interviews and seeing the media results that have been seen by millions of parents makes me realize how important our work is in the education process for parents.” His fire is in full blaze.
- As for account supervisor Jessica Donahue, she has been setting fires all across the state of Maine. Her clients take her from the Down East coastal region of Bar Harbor, to deep in the woods of western Maine. One of Jessica’s favorite things to do is “introduce writers to things in Maine and have them share that with their audience.” Acting as the bridge between media and her home state, Jessica is able to shed light on organizations like Maine Huts & Trails, which has built their entire system of huts with top-of-the-line sustainable energy systems in order to keep Maine the way is it. As an off-the-grid adventure destination, Maine Huts & Trails has shown travelers how to appreciate and take care of the natural world around us while still enjoying all that it has to offer.
Sometimes we even have the opportunity to volunteer our time to local businesses. Account coordinator Megan Crowder has been working with the Augusta Food Bank, offering them marketing and PR advice. “Having the opportunity to help create marketing materials for a local organization whose main mission is to feed the hungry has been great,” says Megan. “Knowing that I am helping people in my community through my work is such a good feeling.”
Each of our clients that gives back to the community has a way of continually inspiring us. Our jobs become more meaningful and our passion turns to using our power to influence your news feeds with awesome, important and authentic news.
