When Billy Graham died last month, I was watching the Today Show and I was struck by how Kathy Lee Gifford expressed her sorrow about his loss, and how he had impacted her life. Regardless of your religious or political beliefs, Billy Graham was a powerful communicator so I decided to write a guest opinion column about his life and death and I submitted it to the Central Maine Newspapers.

Here is a link to my column.

I wanted to share this column with you and remind you that you have the opportunity to submit guest opinion columns and letters to the editor to your local daily and weekly newspapers. This is a great way for you to get your name out there and position yourself as a thought leader in your community.

Check the editorial page section of your local newspaper for word limits and the email address where you should submit your column. Typically, the newspaper will welcome your input and they will publish your piece. You can email it in then follow up with a phone call to be sure they received it and check to see if they plan to publish it.

Here is a link to an article I found on an emergency physicians’ website which I found particularly helpful on this topic.
