Meet the Marshall Communications® Team
Since 1991, organizations across Maine and New England have trusted us for one reason: we get results, and we've built the relationships to get them.
We're women-led, relationship-first, and known for doing the tenacious work that makes brand reputations stick: asking better questions, nurturing the right connections, earning high-impact coverage, and showing up consistently — online and in person. We love to partner with organizations that prioritize their credibility, relationships, and measurable brand growth — often in tourism, economic development, outdoor recreation, and regional business or government throughout Maine and New England. However, we're curious, and we learn fast. Our core competencies are in tourism, economic development and nonprofits, although anything you're promoting from Maine to the world or from the world to Maine is our real expertise.
Strategy and Heart go Hand in Hand
We're rigorous about the work and easy to work with. That's not a contradiction — trust is earned by being clear, being honest, being consistent, and doing what we said we'd do.
Built for Long-term Partnership
While Marshall Communications® is led by founder Nancy Marshall, AKA The PR Maven®, the day-to-day work is done by an experienced team of strategists, writers, and PR practitioners — most of whom have been here for years, and all of whom clients know by name.
Get to Know the Team
Nancy founded Marshall Communications in 1991, back when a media pitch meant a phone call and a stamp, and she's been the first to try every tool that came after. She's an unapologetic extrovert who is curious about everyone she meets — and who has a habit of introducing them to each other.
Fun fact: When Nancy was three years old, her mom would bring her to the grocery store and as they went up and down the aisles with Nancy in the cart, she would introduce herself to everyone and ask if she could see where they lived. Nancy's mom would tell her not to speak to strangers, but Nancy told her mom they were her ‘new friends.’
Whitney is president at Marshall Communications, where she has been part of the team since 2011. With a career built around public relations and marketing, she has a particular passion for tourism and telling the stories of the people, places and experiences that make a destination special. Whitney loves the mix of strategy, creativity and relationship-building that comes with agency life, especially finding the right story and the right way to tell it. After 15 years at Marshall Communications, she knows that no two days, or client needs, are ever quite the same — and that's part of what keeps the work interesting.
Fun fact: Whitney's ideal downtime involves a hiking trail, a good thriller or the latest true crime podcast — although she's learned that hiking and true crime aren't always the best combination.
Anna has spent her career helping organizations find the right words, tell better stories and bring ideas to life. Instinctively inclusive and collaborative, she’s happiest bringing people together, solving problems and keeping good work moving forward.
Fun fact:Anna spent her summers during college teaching archery and horseback riding at a Waldorf camp in New Hampshire.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Kat joined Marshall Communications and the PR world in 2020 following her work in account management at an ad agency. That combination of experience gives her a sharp eye for detail, a creative spirit and an appreciation for simplicity and clarity.
Fun fact: In third grade, Kat attempted to start a hand-drawn, hand-written newspaper with her best friend called "Today's News," which covered everything from the weather (always wrong) to the local gossip of fictionalized characters. Due to the classroom distractions and arguments it caused, "Today's News" was ultimately banned.
"Elaine from Maine" relishes her role working with media and tourism industry partners to tell the stories of Maine's people and places. As tourism account executive serving the Maine Office of Tourism, she's responsible for strategic public relations encompassing targeted pitching and press releases, itinerary planning, creative content development and relationship nurturing. Elaine's background in economic and community development drives her commitment to Maine's tourism industry, with acute attention to detail, dedication to client satisfaction and an energetic passion to honor the communities that make Maine the way life should be.
Fun fact: There's nothing Elaine doesn't want to learn how to DIY, from goat milk soap and lip balm to yogurt and pizza dough.
Emma brings a creative eye and a get-it-done mindset to everything she does. Since joining Marshall Communications in 2019, she has become a versatile PR professional who moves seamlessly from distributing press releases to designing graphics, making sure every detail is just right.
Fun fact: In 2016, Emma placed third nationally in the SkillsUSA post-secondary T-shirt design competition. She represented Maine with a design inspired by something found in no other U.S. state: nesting puffins. Through design, Emma continues to showcase what makes Maine special.
