The highlight of interning at Marshall Communications last week was gaining a new client that I will have a lot of responsibility for servicing with help and guidance from Nancy and Emma. Working on this account will help me learn how we manage client accounts here at Marshall Communications. I am excited to have this leading opportunity that will help me learn and grow! In addition, I attended a new client discovery meeting in Portland’s Old Port (and I met Kat in person for the first time!). It was fun and interesting to learn about that company’s industry and have the opportunity to bring a Gen Z trend to light that can be used to help them better understand and target that demographic.

Last week, I completed a social and news mention report for a client, showcasing where they have been mentioned online and the reach of those mentions. Ultimately, this provides them with data that they can use to better reach their markets. I also spent a large amount of time listening to The PR Maven® Podcast’s top ten episodes of all time, recording the time codes for soundbites that Nancy will play in her 200th episode, so be on the lookout to see who made the top ten!

The more I am learning at Marshall Communications, the more I realize that most people don’t understand PR in today’s marketing world. I think more people need to know that public relations is more than just sending press releases and gaining media coverage – rather, it is connecting a message to a target audience, regardless of how that message is sent or what medium it must go through.

Stay tuned next week to read more about what it is like to be an intern at Marshall Communications, and what I am learning!
