What's New and Unique
Fast Sleds and Crazy Costumes are Winners at Toboggan Championships
Most of the 400-plus sledders who take part in the U.S. National Toboggan Championships in Camden Feb. 11-13 will aim for the fastest time in their category. But some teams, like the trio who dress as the three little pigs each year, will be more interested in having a good time with friends. Two, three and four-person teams dressed in business suits, cow suits, clown suits and other creative costumes make watching the competition on the iced, wooden Jack Williams Toboggan Chute all the more fun. Team pre-registration is required and must be received by Jan. 28.
75th Sno Carnival in Stockholm
Descendents of Swedish immigrants who settled northern Maine towns in the late 1800s continue the traditions of winter sporting events popular in Sweden. The town of Stockholm will host the 75th annual Sno Carnival March 5 with traditional Nordic skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing events. The free event also has homemade Swedish pastries, meals and music. Call (207) 498-8736 for more information.
