Maine Seacoast Mission
NMC’s Marshall Plan® for the Maine Seacoast Mission involved understanding and internalizing a special organization’s unique and long history – not inventing a new brand message but coalescing a fresh, focused story around existing values. So when we addressed their logo and tagline, which would carry new weight as the Mission embarked on efforts to gain new friends and funders, the task became to refresh the logo, not redesign it.
The following points, among others, were taken into account:
- The new logo should be recognizable as an evolutionary step, not an entirely new and different brand personality
- It should introduce some additional color, possibly yellow and/or green
- It should continue to tread that line between a literal representation of their boat, The Sunbeam, and a symbolic representation of hope, rising above hardship, and bringing light to remote spaces.
The final logo retains the boat-and-wave image, but reimagined as a nautical workhorse and paired with custom-drawn typography and a new tagline. The “refresh” is vibrant, has cleaner lines and is easier to incorporate into a variety of layouts.
